Captain D’s History

Captain D’s Menu Prices History

As a result of a lack of expansion of Raymond L. Danner SrShoney”s Big Boy Restaurant business, Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers opened its doors in 1969. It was only possible to operate in 11 states in the Southeast as part of the franchise agreement.

The Shoney’s Big Boy Enterprises merger was completed in 1971 by Danner and Alex Schoenbaum, the co-founder of Shoney’s, and they renamed the company Shoney’s Big Boy Enterprises.

It was a huge success, with 15 locations open in the United States by 1973, when Mr. D’s Hamburgers and Seafood first opened their stores. Then, to concentrate on the renowned shrimp, fish, and side dishes that their customers adored and for which Captain D’s is recognized today, they changed our name to Captain D’s Seafood.

They became known as a place in which families can come together as Captain D’s grew rapidly in the 1970s. The Kids’ Birthday Club and children’s comic books have been added to the hotel’s offerings for younger guests.

The building design and logo along with their exotic menu items, evolved over time as Captain D’s became more popular in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2012, we launched a new, 21st-century Captain D’s restaurant design to better serve our customers.

Upon entering, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into your best coastal locale, thanks to our efforts to create an inviting coastal ambiance. This commitment to quality food, value, and service has never wavered at Captain D’s over the years.

Every one of the over 500 restaurants is proud of its heritage and the time and effort it has taken to perfect its seafood menu, and they are confident that you will enjoy your Captain D’s experience coming years.
