Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is a chain restaurant known for its barbecue food and made-from-scratch sides. Food items include pork ribs and beef brisket which dominate the meat menu, with sausage and ham offering additional options.
There are also an abundant number of sandwich meals as well as chicken tenders, chicken legs, cheeseburgers, and steak. Side dishes include coleslaw, mashed potatoes with gravy, barbecue beans, macaroni and cheese, french fries, green beans with bacon, onion rings, jalapeño cheese sausage bites, cornbread muffins, baked potatoes with chives or beef brisket chili, cobbler desserts made from scratch, and chili macaroni.
Dickey’s Barbecue menu offers a variety of flavors to choose from—from the tangy barbecue ribs to the sweet cobbler dessert that has just the right amount of cinnamon. The barbecue ribs are a favorite among Dickey’s customers.
The meat is moist and tender, with a taste that perfectly compliments the barbecue sauce. The meat falls off the bone. The sauce has a perfect blend of several flavors, with a hint of smokiness and tangy-ness that is not too sweet at all.
The barbecue beans are delicious as well—they have been described as unique in taste from any other barbecue restaurant bean side dish because they have strong hints of ketchup mixed with the right amount of spices and flavors.

Dickey’s Barbecue History
Dickey’s Barbecue restaurant company history begins with Travis Dickey, who founded the company in Dallas, Texas in 1941. The company grew steadily throughout the years, and by the 1970s there were locations all over the southern United States.
In the 1980s, a new generation of Dickey’s Barbecue restaurateurs took over and helped expand the brand even further. Today, there are more than 500 Dickey’s Barbecue restaurants in the United States and around the world.
Travis Dickey founded what would become the Dickey’s Barbecue Pit restaurant company in 1941. Dickey had worked as a short-order cook, and after seeing how well his family enjoyed barbecue he decided to open his own storefront restaurant.
He opened the first location of the now popular nationwide chain in Dallas, Texas. The business grew steadily through the following decades, and by the 1970s Dickey’s was serving customers all over the southern United States.
In the 1980s, a new generation of Dickey’s Barbecue restaurateurs took over and helped expand the brand even further. Today, there are more than 500 Dickey’s Barbecue restaurants in the United States and around the world.
The company is still family-owned but has increased the number of locations so much that in 2008 Dickey’s Barbecue Pit was the second-largest barbecue chain in the United States. Dickey’s Barbecue restaurant showcases a hometown, Americana feel with a modern twist.
Their menu consists of Texas-style smoked meats including beef brisket, pulled pork and chicken along with home style sides such as cole slaw, potato salad, beans and more. Dickey’s Barbecue restaurant is best known for their signature dipping sauce that comes with every order.
