Papa John’s History

Papa John’s Menu Prices History

Papa John’s Pizza was founded in 1984 by John Schnatter as a broom closet-sized pizza shop in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Schnatter sold his 1972 Camaro to help start the restaurant.

In 1993, Papa John’s became the first national pizza chain to offer online ordering. In 1999, then-president George W. Bush praised Papa John’s as “a great success story” during a speech in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 2004, Papa John’s opened its first international restaurant in Mexico City. By 2010, Papa John’s had more than 4,000 restaurants worldwide and generated $1 billion in revenue.

That year, Schnatter once again made headlines when he blamed the Affordable Care Act for a decline in profits and threatened to raise the price of a pizza by 11 cents.

In 2012, a class-action lawsuit against Papa John’s charged that it had been replacing human workers with computers to save on labor costs. Schnatter denied the claim and noted that his business strategy was to increase sales volume in order to lower prices for customers.

Papa John’s announced that Schnatter would step down as CEO before the end of 2018 following his use of a racial slur. What makes this restaurant unique is that it has other products apart from their pizza, such as breadsticks and chicken strips.

Papa John’s is a family-oriented restaurant that provides an array of options for all ages. Whether you want to order something for the kids, or if you have grown up and are looking for more adult fare, Papa John’s has it covered! Hungry?
