History Of Raising Cane’s
Raising Cane’s is a quick-service restaurant that offers fried chicken fingers with a variety of dipping sauces. The company was founded in 1996 by Todd Graves and Craig Silvey, who was a captain in the US Army. The company was named after Silvey’s dog, Cane.
The chain had only one item on its menu when starting out – chicken fingers served with steak fries and coleslaw in a paper sleeve. They would package this combo in either a three or four-finger box.
Customers could choose from five sauces for dipping: BBQ, ranch, honey mustard, raspberry chipotle, and “cane’s sauce.” The brand was sold to private investors in 2003. The company had grown to 100 locations by 2008 when Todd Graves (T-rav) became the CEO.
Since then, the chain has grown exponentially, with over 300 locations worldwide. They’ve expanded their menu to include items like crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, and Chicken Supremes (a grilled chicken breast).
You can find Cane’s restaurants in 18 states. They are currently expanding internationally with locations in Mexico, India, Malaysia, and Guatemala.
Cane’s sauce is a secret and proprietary blend of ingredients. According to the company, it takes four years to perfect. There are currently seven different flavors: original, mild, hot, extra hot, honey mustard, sweet & spicy, and garlic parmesan.
Cane’s is doing well in the fast-food industry. They are currently in the top five in terms of average unit volume in the US. The chain has billions of dollars in global revenue, with 94% of that coming from franchisees.
