Rafferty’s was founded by Dan Davis in 1981 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The company started as a small pizza shop and has since grown to include over 100 locations across the United States.
Rafferty’s is known for its made-from-scratch pizzas, its extensive menu of appetizers and entrees, and its family-friendly atmosphere. The company is currently led by CEO John Palmer, who took over from Davis in 2012.
Rafferty’s began in 1981 as a single pizza shop in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Dan Davis started the company because he believed that there was a need for a restaurant serving made-from-scratch pizzas with a large menu of appetizers and entrees.
It became an immediate success, leading to the opening of a second location in Norwood, Ohio, and then to the development of an extensive menu to allow for larger-scale production.
After years of success with Rafferty’s restaurants in Kentucky and Ohio, Davis decided to expand across the United States. The first restaurant outside Bowling Green opened in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1993.
Davis opened the 100th Rafferty’s restaurant in Olathe, Kansas, near Kansas City in 1994. Rafferty experienced success under Davis, who was active both with Rafferty’s and other business interests until his death at age 58 in 2012.
After Davis died, John Palmer took over Rafferty’s. Palmer previously had been president of the company since 1997 but stepped into his new role immediately after Davis passed away.
Today, Rafferty’s has over 100 locations across 13 states in the Midwest and South. The privately held company currently boasts annual revenues of over 100 million dollars per year.
